We can on a freezing night on Christmas Day - heading to a play at the Wild-Project. We had no expectation - just a warm room and decent food on a night on which most places were closed or felt uninviting. The staff was welcoming and friendly and very, very welcoming and accommodating. Food was great, regular starters were tasty and especially the crispy cauliflower, mains were great - including standards Tandoori mixed grill, saag aloo and chicken ticka masala. Grateful for this surprise find and - we’ll back!
Overview
If you're in the mood for bold, flavorful dishes that transport your taste buds straight to India, Mughlai Grill Indian Cuisine on Clinton St in New York is the place to be. Located at 6 Clinton St, New York, NY 10002, this cozy restaurant offers an authentic Mughlai dining experience that showcases rich spices, tender meats, and aromatic rice.
Walking into Mughlai Grill, you’re greeted with the warm, inviting atmosphere of a true Indian eatery. The dim lighting, soft music in the background, and traditional decor set the tone for a flavorful journey. Whether you're a fan of the famous tandoori cooking style or crave a creamy curry, there's something on the menu that will catch your eye.
One of the highlights at Mughlai Grill is their focus on Mughlai cuisine, a blend of Central Asian and Indian flavors that includes both hearty meats and delicate vegetarian dishes. The menu here brings classic Mughlai offerings like kebabs, biryanis, and rich curries to life. The chicken and lamb kebabs are a favorite among regulars-marinated to perfection and grilled just right. For those who love a spicy kick, the lamb seekh kebabs pack the right amount of heat without overwhelming the palate.
A standout dish at Mughlai Grill is the chicken tikka masala. Creamy, mildly spiced, and served with basmati rice, it’s the comfort food you didn’t know you needed. If you prefer something a bit more daring, try the mutton rogan josh. Slow-cooked to tender perfection, the mutton absorbs all the spices, creating a dish that’s bursting with flavor. These dishes are complemented perfectly by naan, warm and fluffy, making every bite even more satisfying.
Vegetarian options aren’t overlooked either. The palak paneer, featuring fresh paneer in a smooth, spiced spinach gravy, is a classic and consistently delicious. For those who like to go for something a little more unique, the dal makhani here is a rich, creamy experience you won’t soon forget. The slow-cooked lentils are full of flavor, making it a must-try for anyone craving comfort food that’s just as delicious without the meat.
The tandoori section is another reason to visit Mughlai Grill. The tandoor oven, used to cook meats and breads at high temperatures, imparts a smoky, charred flavor that you can’t replicate on a regular grill. Their tandoori chicken is a perfect example of this cooking method, offering smoky charred skin while keeping the meat juicy and tender inside. Paired with their signature chutneys, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Back to leave another review because tonight was the best yet. Also, a video was necessary. I’m here often. The food is incredible and the staff actually cares about your evening and the neighborhood that it’s a part of. The tandoori here is always exceptional but tonight I was wowed. I didn’t think that you guys could wow me after so many years and times here, but bravo!! Dinner was amazing. Thank you!
The place is cute, quiet, you can feel the peace while being there. The food is delicious as well as the service. The owner is always there and he serve with kindness and hospitality. The mango also drink is delicious.
I found this place completely by accident and it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened! The food is absolutely amazing! I had the best butter chicken of my life here. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. I honestly can’t wait to come back!
The best Tikka I have ever had! The chef has decades of experience cooking authentic Indian cuisine and the owner was an absolute delight. Lots of wonderful vegan options for my daughter as well. Highly recommend! I only wish I lived nearby so we could go again soon.
I had been here a few times many years ago, but today I took a group of 12 middle school kids. First of all, the food was delicious. They made sure that the food was extremely flavorful, even for the students who asked for it mild. While some Indian restaurants take "mild" to mean flavorless, this was not the case at Mughlai. On the flip side, I asked for my dish spicy and they definitely delivered. It was delicious! In addition, the lunch special price was very fair especially considering how large the portions were. Second, the staff was so kind, generous, and accommodating of our middle schoolers. They treated them with the same professionalism they would any adult guests. Even when the middle schoolers acted like... middle schoolers, the Mughlai staff was so patient. Thank you again. We had a wonderful experience!
Delicious food!!!! We had a great time here! The service was impeccable and the food very flavorful and delicious. The chef has over 40 years of experience with tandoor chicken. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. The mango chutney I ate by itself with a spoon because it was perfect. The seating is a little tight so it might be better to just go with a small group, a date or just by yourself. Will definitely be back!
